Sir Stephen, Group Chairman for Europe, is the senior representative for the Hitachi Group’s businesses in EMEA, responsible for Group Strategy and Business Development. Before joining Hitachi in 2004, Stephen enjoyed an extensive career with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, serving in several capacities including British Ambassador in Japan and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN. He received his knighthood for services to the government in 2000. Following early retirement, Sir Stephen became Hitachi’s Chief Executive for Europe before his current appointment in April 2011.
